Dear SW List, Stuart, Sandy...
PNG is a great format, and I bet that other Listserves can handle it,
but when it comes to this SW List, I have no choice but to follow the
rules, since I have no control whatsoever over how the Listserve itself
functions...The SW List is donated to us, as you know, from Humber
College in Canada, and the first owner, Paul Cowley, is not reachable.
Every known email address I have for Paul does not work any longer, so
the SW-List is on "auto-pilot" so to speak...

Meanwhile, you can tell quickly, what formats are acceptable, by
sending a wrong format, and then noticing that the message is filled
with garbage, or it does not show up in the Archives, or it shows up in
the Archives, but is distorted...The latter happens with BMP as well...

Here is our SW List policy on attachments and languages:

SIGNWRITING LIST

MULTI-LINGUAL MESSAGES
You are welcome to write messages in any spoken or signed languages!

ATTACHED FILES
The SignWriting List accepts attached files. This makes it possible to
send email messages written in any signed language. Attached files can
also be used to teach SignWriting symbols, or to share photos of
students using SignWriting.

Attachments should NOT be compressed, and should not be more than 150 K
(very small uncompressed files). IMPORTANT: Attach only ONE file to one
email message. The LISTSERVE software that manages the SignWriting List
does not accept more than one attached file per message. Attached files
cannot be viewed in DIGEST MODE.

Graphics formats accepted are: .GIF, .JPEG, .PDF, .SGN, .DIC-.DIN and
..SWML (a new format that is under development).
