Dear Valerie
I am a 1st year student at Christchurch College of Education in New
Zealand.  Our latest assignment is to design a welcome sign, using at
least 10 different languages to greet families into our centres.

My Grandmother in the UK is deaf so it prompted me to use a sign
language example of 'hello' and 'welcome'.  Unfortunately with Nan
being 90 years old we have never had to use the tremendous new sign
writing examples or in fact the ASL.  Therefore any help you could
provide in enabling me to incorporate the deaf into our community
welcome poster would be greatly appreciated.

I am also interested in the sign language greeting as we have a boy in
our centre who is physically and mentally handicapped and his great
teacher Debbie is using sign language to communicate with him although
he can hear.  I have also briefly read how sign language is being used
with hearing toddlers to communicate.  We teach them all we can at
pre-schools and they learn so fast, so why shouldn't sign language be
incorporated too.  It would benefit us all in the long run.

Thank you

Kind regards
Tracy
