Well, at least I know what to do now. I can only put on signs at work or at the library (where there's a faster computer), my home computer is Windows 98 and is as slow as molasses (and it's not even January yet).

Hi Charles,

Yes, that is a defect with SignMaker. If you delete a symbol, that change will not register until after you do something else, like add a symbol, move a symbol, or use a special command. To work around this defect, I deleted the wrong head then moved one of the other symbols. I will fix this defect shortly.

In the meantme, I fixed the sign baron.

Hi Stephen,

There still seems to be a glitch. While trying to create the sign "baron", i originally had placed a second head lower down to show the movement of the hand from the center of the head to the left of the head.

I edited it out before I saved the sign (meaning it disappeared from the sign box) but when I saved it, the second head was still there.

I then tried going into Edit mode, and took it out again, but AGAIN, it still appeared.

Is there a glitch? Charles

Thank you Stephen, I tried to create and save a sign. I could create it, and it got all the way to writing the name, definition, and source, but when I tried to save after that, it said, "not valid" or something similar. There seems to be a glitch at that point. It then said that there were still no signs in the dictionary so I don't know what happened.

Charles - THANK YOU!

Hi Charles,

If you want an SCA SignPuddle, I've created one for you on Oculog.net: http://www.oculog.net/signpuddle/SCA. If anyone else wants a SignPuddle to play around in, let me know.

I have also created a SignPuddle for testing: http://www.oculog.net/signpuddle/test. Username: test Password: test.

Looking at your Flemish & Walloon sections brings up an interesting use of Sign Language, that of the Society for Creative Anachronism. The SCA is a medievalist recreationist group that uses ASL and some signs from other languages in a medieval court setting. One of the areas that is most useful to us is in "name signs" for specific groups. These are based, whenever possible, on the heraldry of the group, so, for example, An Tir is a lion rampant, which would be ASL [Lion + claw forward], Trimaris is [3 + water + waves]. Would it be possible to get an SCA SignPuddle section set up so that we can load this set of "special interest signs" into it?

Hello List, and Kathleen and Flemish children!

Ha! yes. I did as you suggested, Kathleen, and divided Belgium into the
two Sign Language regions, Flemish and Walloon. Please see attached
diagram for the icons for the two areas...I hope this is what you
wanted? The Walloon dictionary does not go anywhere right now if you
click on the icon, but in time it will...And I used the sign for
Belgium for the Walloon dictionary until I find out what their sign is
for their regional area of Belgium...

Plus...Kathleen...did I choose the correct s! ! ! ign for Flanders? Notice
how following the SignSpelling rules, the arrow is underneath the first
handshape. I can explain that rule again, if you need it for your
students:
