SignWriting List
September 13, 2004

Dear SW List, Kevin, Antonio Carlos, and Stuart -
Yesterday I purchased a D-Link Eye-2-Eye VideoPhone, DVC 1000. It
provides a camera plus the following features:

USE WITHOUT A COMPUTER
This is a video phone that attaches to your television and is viewed
through your television. So the sign language will be close to life
size...It requires a TV, a telephone, a router, and a fast-broadband
connection to the internet.

USE WITH A COMPUTER
It can also act as the camera for other video conferencing services on
the web...

I like the fact that it can be used both ways...My only problems are
related to the fact that my computers are all Macintoshes, and the
FacetoFace Meeting web site that we discussed last week only has
Windows software. I could access it through VirtualPC but I am not so
sure that would be good because emulators tend to be slower...All these
little kinks can be worked through I am sure...The Mac iChatAV
videoconferencing is for both Windows and Macs, so that may be a choice
for us later too...

When I get the D-link hooked up, I will call Kevin and Stuart first
thing and have my first sign language conversations with them! My
parents are flying in today from Florida, so it may take a day or two,
before I will have time to focus on it...

Have a wonderful day!

Val ;-)
