News from Bluefields

For those of you who are watching, Beta has shifted south of its original
projected course, maing landfall halfway between Bilwi and Bluefields. (We
had anticipated a direct strike upon Bilwi, but the storm is headed through
a relatively unpopulated and remote rain forest area. That, of course, is
bad news for the people living there as the homes in this region are of the
flimsiest construction. On the other hand, damage to infrastructure should
not amount to much as there basically is not much infrastructure to begin
with.

The storm track now takes Beta pretty much over Condega and the area that
was hit hard seven years ago by Mitch. So it is a question of how much rain
and how many mudslides.
