Downloading SignBank

Hello folks!
I wanted to share my own experience of unzipping sign writing files in
case it may help someone else.
The file that I downloaded was named "imwa.zip" and contained around
26,263 png images. I tried several different utilities for unzipping
this file and even wrote my own script in python to do the job, but
nothing seems to have been very successful. I could unzip around 21,844
files and then things would stop. I am working on Windows XP Pro. WHAT I
DID DISCOVER was that I could extract these initial 21,844 files into
one directory and then extract the remaining files into a second
directory, and then I could write them out to a CD to give me a complete
set. Don't ask me why this works!!! I don't know if this is a Windows
problem or something specific to my machine, but it almost appears that
I have a limit to file number or size that I can place into a single
directory. If anyone has an answer to this mystery, I would love to hear
it, but for now I appear to have a full set of images by splitting the
unzipping between two separate directories. (I also have a splitting
headache as well!)
Best regards,
Tim Grove
