There is a solution for the 10 handshape! ;-)

If the thumb is along side the hand and therefore the thumb sticks out on
top of the hand I agree with # 1, but if the thumb is straight out to the
signer I understand # 3 better. When I look at # 2  I want to turn the hand
slightly towards the right and then it does not work with the shading.
