Thank you Steve, I had many answers in your e-mail !
Have you worked on the conversion of a spelling into an approximate sequence?

Regards,

Hasna

Steve Slevinski <slevin at signpuddle.net> a écrit : Hi Hasna,

I use spelling and sequence as basic terminology. A sign's "sequence"
is often referred to as its SignSpelling Sequence. A sign's "spelling"
is the image of symbols in space. The term "SignSpelling" can refer to
either the rules for how to write a sign's spelling or it can refer to
the SignSpelling Sequence. I avoid this term unqualified.

The spelling is used by the SignWriting Image Server to create sign
images. We read the spelling.

The sequence is used in both SignBank and SignPuddle to sort signs.

A sign can have more than one spelling and more than one sequence.
Because SignWriting is such a flexible system, it is possible to write
simple or detailed information in both the spelling and sequence.

For a small corpus, a simple sequence should suffice for most signs, but
when the corpus grows larger, more detailed information is required to
sort properly.

In theory, it would be possible to convert a spelling into an
approximate sequence. Be aware that the sequence may need writing
symbols that are not used in the spelling, and the sequence may need
sorting symbols from SymbolGroup 30.

A computer approximation could be used and cleaned up later by humans to
improve lookup.

Regards,
-Steve
