There are other programs called SignMaker too…that are related to painting building signs…nothing to do with sign languages...in fact there are several in different countries - there are similar names that are used in different professions - but if it is related to sign languages, then it is best not to use the same name as someone else, out of courtesy and kindness - we do not want to confuse anyone -
So it all depends on the subject matter - a SignMaker for making big signs on buildings is not the same as a SignMaker program that drags and drops sign language related symbols into a dictionary on a computer or iPhone ;-)
I could not find the two worded version you mention below but that is ok - if you would prefer, let’s keep your translation as it was, or keep it in English because that is the name of the program - in Brazil some people translate the term SignWriting to Escrita de Sinais but others just call it SignWriting even though it is a foreign word…
These are fun issues and nothing is too serious - that I have learned through years of experience - Did you know there are two SignBanks related to sign languages? One is ours: www.SignBank.org <http://www.signbank.org/> and the other is in Australia: http://www.auslan.org.au <http://www.auslan.org.au/> - I think it is good and I am of course impressed with the Australian site -
I like the name “SignÉditeur” - later Steve will be using the term SignText for writing documents in the same program, and the name “SignÉditeur” kind of fits both
So now I leave this to you - whatever you choose is fine with me ;-)
Val ;-)
