[Sw-l] Video+Emoji chat for Signing and SignWriting communities

Hi,

My name is John C. I’ve been a lurker for a while. I wonder if there
are other online communities for deaf people. I wonder if there’s a place
for real-time or instantaneous communication in SignWriting and other Sign
Languages. In the last couple of years, the Discord chat software has
become popular among gamers and disabled communities, it offers features
like emojis and video chat. So, I’ve been curious to hook up signing video
chat and SignWriting on a Discord “server,” which hosts many “channels.” I
have a couple of people wanting to write a Discord bot, and I thought it
would be cool to try to write a translation bot between one or more sign
languages and SignWriting. I think the first step may be to hook up a
SignWriting composition system to Discord, even if it’s copy and paste.

My experience involves writing chat systems and client bots and software
since the 80s. I have been retired for many years, but remain active in
online communities. My cohort wants to get involved in writing bots in
Java, which I have used for many years. I also have experience writing a
font or two for computer terminals (and old term for keyboards and screens
hooked up to a computer).

The beginning of a discussion…

John
