Dear SW List Members, and Olavo!

Thank you, Olavo, for announcing the International SW Community WhatsApp Group List to the SignWriting List members.

And thank you, Olavo, for doing so much work to build this new International List on WhatsApp, and it is remarkable that you have so many new members so fast, you are right about that!

The SignWriting List at the moment has around 200 List members, from around 20 countries, but not all of them are active. I agree with you, that the new International SW Community List has more daily activity and I am enjoying being on both Lists.

It is hard, though, to be on both Lists at the same time, but we will be keeping the SignWriting List going anyway, because the SignWriting List is Listserve software and it has an Archive, where we save and record each message posted to the SW List. The Archives are very valuable and I do not want to lose the Archives, because researchers and students can search the Archives on the internet for information for the future and WhatsApp does not provide an Archive feature.

There are some members of the SignWriting List who have chosen not to join the WhatsApp group because not everyone can handle too many lists.

Since I am on BOTH lists, and I manage the SignWriting Listserve along with Steve Slevinski, both groups share us, and also both Lists are very international. At the moment The SignWriting List, which is on Listserve software, has around 200 members from around 18 countries. I believe in time the WhatsApp group will be the biggest, but at the moment they are about equal.

So I am trying to figure out a way that the SW List Archives can be of help to the WhatsApp SW group, and how the WhatsApp groups’ messages can be archived in another way - this is a work in progress!

I will keep you informed -

And I hope that SW List members who have not chosen to join the International SW What’sApp group might re-consider - it is very active if you can figure out how to translate messages faster than I can, it is wonderful to have back and forth conversations the way they have -
