The 52nd International Conference on Sino-Tibetan Languages and
Linguistics will be held in conjunction with the 25th Himalayan
Languages Symposium from June 24-29, 2019, at the University of Sydney’s
Camperdown Campus. Both conferences will be hosted by the University of
Sydney Department of Linguistics, and co-organized by Mark W. Post,
Gwendolyn Hyslop and Yankee Modi (plus volunteers!).
The schedule will be as follows:
June 24-26 ICSTLL52 (Confirmed plenary speakers Tian-Shin
Jackson Sun and James A. Matisoff)
June 27 Combined ICSTLL/HLS Themed Workshops
June 28-29 HLS25 (Confirmed plenary speakers George van Driem
and Jade d'Alpiom Guedes)
The abstract submissions processes for ICSTLL52 and HLS25 will be
distinct, and it is possible (and encouraged) to submit a maximum of one
single-authored and one co-authored paper to each conference. In both
cases, abstracts should be no more than 500 words, single-spaced,
exclusive of data and references (if any). Please write your abstract in
English.
Please submit your ICSTLL52 abstract(s) at:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icstll52
Please submit your HLS25 abstract(s) at:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hls25
In both cases, the abstract submission deadline is April 5, 2019.
To submit a Workshop Proposal, please send a Workshop Description of no
more than one sheet of A4-sized paper (plus an additional sheet for data
and references, if any) to ICSTLL52HLS25 at gmail.com before December 20,
2018. Notification will be approximately two weeks afterward. Workshop
Organizers should manage their own calls for papers or other recruitment
mechanisms, and be prepared to supply a revised Workshop Description and
Schedule by May 15, 2019.
In observance of 2019 as the UNESCO International Year of Indigenous
Languages, we particularly welcome papers specifically addressing the
study and conservation of the many minority and Indigenous languages
falling within the Sino-Tibetan/Trans-Himalayan area, and papers
authored by a native member of a minority or Indigenous language
community within this area. To facilitate this, a number of travel
bursaries will be made available for (a) scholars and/or students from
Southeast Asian nations (b) scholars and/or students who are native
speakers/members of a minority and/or Indigenous language/community of
Mainland Asia, prioritizing languages/communities of the Himalayan
region (broadly defined). Application for travel bursaries will take
place after the abstract selection process; only authors of papers whose
abstracts have been accepted for presentation at the conference will be
invited to apply.
For further information (which will be updated on an ongoing basis),
please visit the conference website at
https://sites.google.com/view/icstll52hls25/home, and/or send an email
to ICSTLL52HLS25 at gmail.com.
We look forward to welcoming you to Sydney!!
