Get yourself a copy of the new Kola Sï¿∏mi songbook and support local
indigenous
publishing! Here is a chance to get a copy of a very rare Saami book and at
the
same time support local publishing in indigenous languages. But hurry, only
few
copies are available! The first ever Sï¿∏mi songbook based on poetry by Kola
Sï¿∏mi
authors was published in Monchegorsk by the local group of the Sï¿∏mi
association
OOSMO. The title of the book is Olenevod speshit v Lovozero. Sbornik pesen
na
stikhi saamskikh poetov (The Reindeer Breeder hurries off to Lovozero.
Songbook
based on poetry by Sï¿∏mi poets). It has 32 pages and the text is in Russian
and
partly in Kildin Sï¿∏mi. It was made for kindergartens, Sï¿∏mi cultural
organisations and gatherings etc. Infonor received a request from the Sï¿∏mi
of
Monchegorsk to help raising money to pay the printerï¿∏s bill. The
Copenhagen
Linguistic Circle (Committee for endangered languages) responded positively
by
granting the necessary amount of money. Thanks to the funding offered by the
linguists, the songbook will be distributed free of charge on the Kola
Peninsula. Infonor was so encouraged by is dedicated to the idea of
supporting
publications in indigenous languages of Russia. For that purpose Infonor has
set
up a permanent fund in support of future book projects in such languages.
The
projects must be suggested by indigenous groups, organisations and
individuals.
Infonor has later financed the printing of extra copies of the songbook, and
our
aim is to raise the modest starting capital for the purpose. Proceeds from
the
sale of these books will hopefully create a small capital for the benefit of
future native language publications. What can you do? Support publications
in
