Betreff: Finnish and Estonian hyphenation assistance
Dear Johanna,
Petri Kallio suggested that you could help us find people who can assist us
with Finnish and Estonian hyphenation. We need linguist(s) to work for about
10 hours total on Finnish and Estonian - about 5 hours per language.
At Proximity Technology, we develop spell-correction and hyphenation data
and code for license to other companies. We currently support 36 languages,
including Finnish and Estonian, and periodically need to consult with
specialists in those languages to resolve linguistic questions regarding
spelling and hyphenation.
The work would involve verifying correctness of spelling words (e.g. is
"color" a correct spelling in the UK; is it permissible to leave accent
marks off capital letters in French), and hyphenation info (which sometimes
requires consulting with language authorities like a national language
academy, but generally requires intimate knowledge of the language and its
hyphenation rules).
For each language, we have a few open linguistic issues, and may have more
in the future.
Those interested in this work for Estonian and/or Finnish should send a CV
or resume and an hourly rate to Anne McDonald (anne_mcdonald at franklin.com).
Thanks,
Marc Miyake
