100 years since the birth of Paula Palmeos

forwarded from the UGRIMUGRI list, in particular because of the wonderful photo: at the Estonian National Museum in Tartu, an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Paula Palmeos (1911-1990) will be opened on November 17th (and remain until the end of January).  Paula Palmeos, Docent of the University of Tartu, made her career in linguistics mainly in the area of Karelian (she published a monograph on the Karelian dialect of the Valdai enclave), Veps and the historical lexicology of Estonian, but generations of students at the University of Tartu in the post-War decades learnt to know and love her as their teacher of Finnish or Hungarian. She published many textbooks of Finnish, and the title of the exhibition [“What's news?"] was a phrase frequently used in her Finnish classes.
