Below the announcement of a seminar on “The Fennoscandian and Finno-Ugric past in the light of genes, languages and cultures” with the participation of uralicists, general linguists and researchers from other fields.

Dear guest of honour,

Welcome to the seminar “The Fennoscandian and Finno-Ugric past in the light of genes, languages and cultures” on the 10-11th of February 2016 at the University of Turku, Finland. The transdisciplinary seminar focuses on the (pre)history of Finland, Fennoscandia and Uralic speaking areas of Eurasia. The seminar brings together researchers from different fields of science in order to teach each other and the audience, how the human population history is studied with different approaches. The program is attached. The seminar is held in English and is open to the public.

After the seminar there will be a workshop among the quests including the speakers and some other experts. In the workshop we will combine the information achieved during the seminar, and discuss the potential to merge the study fields. We will also enjoy Finnish food from the Viking era and Finnish-style tapas (Sapas).

and answer questions about accommodation, arrival and departures and possible special diets. We also ask if you allow your presentation to be broadcasted as web-seminar. The presentations will be shown on-line until 22nd of February. After this we will remove them. Please answer ASAP.

The seminar is organized by BEDLAN team (Biological Evolution and Diversification of Languages; funded by Kone Foundation) jointly with SUGRIGE team (intiation to study Finno-Ugric ancient genome; funded by Kone Foundation).
