As we say in Finnish: kootut selitykset.
It seems that I haven't managed to express myself clearly enough. If you are on the list and everything is functioning, just ignore these messages. You don't have to contact me or send subscriptions in order to remain on the list and continue sending your messages to ura-list at helsinki.fi <mailto:ura-list at helsinki.fi>. I have only deleted those addresses which do not function, that is, from which the mails bounce back with an error message ("unknown address", "no such user" etc.). There were quite a few of them on the subscriber list.
If you are in doubt whether you are still on, you can visit the list archive at http://listserv.linguistlist.org/pipermail/ura-list/ <http://listserv.linguistlist.org/pipermail/ura-list/> to check if you have received the recent postings.
If you don't get the messages but want to remain on the list, or if you get them but want to get out of the list, send the (un)subscribe message as described below to majordomo at helsinki.fi <mailto:majordomo at helsinki.fi> . (Please note that Majordomo is just a computer application and only understands certain pre-determined commands.) You can also forward this information to colleagues who might be wondering why they don't receive the URA-LIST postings any more.

> Dear all,
>
> I have just cleaned up the subscriber list and removed some 30 addresses which are no more operational. Some of them belong to people who are also subscribed with a valid address, some are completely obscure, and I don't have any time or energy to try to find all those people and ask them whether they want to continue subscribing to URA-LIST. I can only ask all of you to spread the information among your colleagues:
>
> if you are interested in following URA-LIST, just send a message with the text (in the message body!)
>
> subscribe ura-list my.own at e-mail.here <mailto:my.own at e-mail.here>
>
> to majordomo at helsinki.fi <mailto:majordomo at helsinki.fi>.
>
> If you don't want to be on the list any more, do the same with "unsubscribe".
>
> Should your e-mail address change, unsubscribe from the old address and subscribe from the new one.
>
> Once you are on the list, you should be able to send mail to the list directly: ura-list at helsinki.fi <mailto:ura-list at helsinki.fi> . If your message doesn't go through, it is either too big or (this is the more usual reason) you are sending your mail from a different address than what you used for subscribing, and poor Majordomo doesn't recognize you as a list member. Such mails are forwarded to the moderator (yours truly), but it can happen that they are sandwiched between the usual loads of spam and get deleted. Please don't hesitate to ask me if you have any problems with your messages.
