Dear Colleagues,
during the last weeks, many adaptations had to be made not just in the
academic world. This is always accompanied by a certain insecurity of
what will remain as usual and will have to be cancelled or postponed.
We are happy to tell you that the Workshop Siberian Life: Language and
Culture in the great North will take place as planned in Spring 2021.
Please find the second Call for papers below. The deadline for abstract
submission is July 15th, 2020
Best whishes,
Hannah Wegener
Call for papers:
[Workshop]*Siberian life: language and culture in the great North*
In recent decades a number of interrelated subdisciplines of linguistics
such as anthropological linguistics, ethnosyntax, or cultural
linguistics have arisen which are still in the stage of defining
themselves. The aim of the workshop is to bring together scholars to
explore the potential of these disciplines.
The Institute for Finno-Ugric/Uralic studies at the University of
Hamburg invites scholars from all fields of linguistics, anthropology
and ethnology to take part in a workshop on the ethnolinguistics of the
indigenous languages and peoples of Northern Siberia. Any topics from
the above mentioned fields are welcome for presentation. Papers
investigating cultural effects on grammar are especially appreciated.
The workshop will take place from 4th – 5th of February 2021 at the
University of Hamburg (Universität Hamburg) in Hamburg, Germany.
*Abstract*
We invite abstracts for a 20-minute presentation (plus 10 minute
discussion). Abstracts should not exceed 250 words, excluding references
and language examples. The page should be headed only by the title of
the paper and not contain any self-identification.
*Submission*
Please submit abstracts electronically as an e-mail attachment to the
workshop’s email address siberian-life21.slm at uni-hamburg.de. We kindly
ask you to use .docx or .rtf formats in addition to pdf. Please also
include the author’s name, affiliation and title of the paper in the
body of the accompanying email.
The deadline for submitting abstracts is *July 15, 2020*
All proposals will be reviewed anonymously.
*Language*
The official languages of the workshop are English, German and Russian.
It is possible, however to present papers in another language. If you
choose not to present in English, we kindly ask you to prepare your
