Conference Theme: an Austroasiatic Family
Reunion
After a decades-long absence, the biannual Austroasiatic Lingistics
conference
series was revived in 2007 with a highly successful meeting at Deccan College
in Puna, India. As we travel to Bangkok in 2009, we take advantage of
Thailand's central location to hold
an inclusive conference with representative scholars and speakers from every
branch of Austroasiatic. Please join us in fulfilling our conference
theme: An Austroasiatic Family Reunion.
Financial assistance: In the spirit of the conference
theme, the Centre for Research in Computational Linguistics (with support
from
the National Endowment for the Humanities) has made provision for a limited
award of honoraria for attendees from native speaker communities. These
will be
decided at the discretion of the organizers. We will accept written requests
and suggestions, which will be assessed on their merits.
Topics: Papers are invited on all topics of
interest related to the Austroasiatic language family, such as:
- modern, historical, and comparative lexicography
- epigraphy and historical texts
- language and culture of Munda and Mon-Khmer speakers
- linguistic data collection, access, and preservation
revitalization of endangered
languages
- computational linguistics and methods
Publication: A conference proceedings will be
published by Pacific Linguistics. Alternatively, papers that are finalized
after the conference may be submitted to the Mon-Khmer Studies Journal.
