To dress "all in good taste," as though/as when going to (apply for) work,
as opposed to wearing catching-clothes to a social event

The background. A gay black guy is describing going to gay bars with his
fag-hag and finding that she garnered a lot of attention. So, he let it be
known that she was a "transsexual," just for laughs. Because she "dressed
gig" and not flamboyantly sexily, the guys found her especially intriguing,
according to his story.

All say, "How hard it is that we have to die!"---a strange complaint to
come from the mouths of people who have had to live.
