The Gothic style arose in France in the 12th century and
had nothing to do with the Ostrogoths or any other kind
of Goths.  It had everything to do with a desire to make
arches and vaults in cathedrals higher than the
Romanesque style allowed.  Look up Suger of St Denis and
Notre Dame de Paris.
