You are kidding, aren't you? How on earth could the short-lived
Ostrogothic kingdom in Italy be the nucleus for a united Europe of
the 21st century? Note the Ostrogoths survived in Italy only as long
as they realised how precarious their situation was, and as long as
the Rome-friendly faction was keeping the upper-hand. In other words
the Ostrogothic kingdom was in decline as soon as Theoderic died in
526AD.

Secondly, the Visigothic kingdom in Spain is sometimes credited for
manifesting Spanish unity. But to see is as nucleus for a united
Europe is going far to wide. At any rate, the only barbaric state
that is somtimes seen as forerunner of a united Europe is the
Merowingian kingdom of the Franks. However, this eventually broke up
along an older Germanic-Romanic deviding line.

outset.
