TORONTO, June 21 /CNW/ - The Canadian Television Fund (CTF) is pleased to
announce it will support 19 Aboriginal-language Productions, and 10
French-language Productions Outside Quebec (FLPOQ) in the first round of
funding, through its Special Initiatives funding stream for 2007-2008.
The successful Aboriginal-language applications are from New Brunswick,
Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Quebec, including inter-provincial
co-productions from Nunavut/Ontario and Nunavut/Montreal. Thirteen
documentaries, three Variety and Performing Arts projects and three Children
and Youth productions will provide 61 hours of new, original programming.
To date, the successful FLPOQ applications are from New Brunswick,
Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. Seven documentary projects were
selected for funding, along with one continuing series from each of the
following genres: Drama, Variety and Performing Arts, and Children and Youth.
They represent 51 hours of new, original programming. The FLPOQ stream is
still accepting applications for 2007-08 funding. The final closing date for
eligible FLPOQ applications is September 6, 2007.
"Productions funded through the Aboriginal-language and French-language
Production Outside Quebec Special Initiatives tell unique stories that are an
important part of Canadian history and culture," said CTF President Valerie
Creighton. "We were impressed with the quality of the submissions, and are
proud to fund television shows that lend a voice to communities that are often
under-represented in Canadian broadcasting."
The CTF allocates funding to eligible Canadian productions through its
Broadcaster Performance Envelopes (BPEs) and its Special Initiatives streams.
Funding for Special Initiatives include Aboriginal-language Production,
French-language Production Outside Quebec, Versioning, and Development. In
2007-2008, French-language Production Outside Quebec has a total budget of
$8.39 million, and Aboriginal-language Production has a budget of $2.9
million.
