Let me emphasize that: NO ONE LEARNT KATHEREVOUSA AS A MOTHER TONGUE.

This is exactly analogous to the situation with Latin in western Europe or
Sanskrit in Asia:  Those who use(d) either did not learn it as a mother tongue.
