Description:
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of 
California, Santa Barbara is hiring a Lecturer with Potential 
Security of Employment (PSOE) to serve as Director of the 
Language Programs in Spanish and Portuguese, starting July 1st, 
2008. Although the position of PSOE is not a ladder position, it 
is a potentially permanent position unique to the University of 
California system and equivalent to tenure-track.

Responsibilities will include running the Spanish language 
program (training and supervising instructors; textbook 
selection; testing and grading) and teaching undergraduate 
Spanish language and methodology courses. We seek candidates 
possessing a strong background in Applied Linguistics with a 
specialization in Language Pedagogy and/or Second Language 
Acquisition. Experience supervising graduate students as well as 
expertise in web technology applied to second language 
instruction is highly desirable. Native or near-native fluency in 
Spanish is required, with a preference for the knowledge of 
Portuguese and other Iberian languages. PhD or equivalent 
required at time of appointment. The department is particularly 
interested in a scholar who may contribute to the diversity and 
excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, 
and service.
