This is certainly true of most Siouan languages.  There's a verb 'to make
one's characteristic sound; to give voice'.  There might be a few forms
like 'to bark', though I don't know of one off hand.  I suspect this is an
areal trait of the North American Northeast or maybe Plains, though Plains
tends to be a mix of Northeastern and Basin.
