Susan might have seen this advice before, but for any other Mac users of
Shoebox:

One thing that can help Shoebox 5 work better on a Mac running OS X, is to
increase the amount of memory allotted to the program. In Finder, find the
Shoebox program file, and do a Get Info (Command - I) on it, and increase
the amount of memory. You might have thought you didn't need to do this
anymore in OS X, but it is still possible and necessary for Shoebox 5. (Any
application that runs in Classic can have its memory allocation changed in
the Get Info dialog).

I've seen that Shoebox 5 when it runs out of memory in OS 9 gives you a
warning message. In OS X, under Classic, it just exits abruptly without
warning when memory runs out. To calculate an estimate of how much memory
Shoebox might need, see the page at

Toolbox news: The Toolbox developer has just recently acquired a new
Powerbook, so is now capable of working on a Mac OS X version (he's using
WXWidgets if you want the technical details). I don't think there is a
target date announced yet for the release of the Mac version.
