I am sending this Retirement Blessing Message for you, Nancy, on behalf of
my husband, Hal (aka Dr. Harold) Schiffman who was promoted to Heaven in
December 2022. I know Hal would want to be included in your celebration.
During his active years at UPenn with the Penn Language Center and other
parts of the University he loved working with you, Nancy. You were a true
partner in his passion for the promotion of bilingual education and the
support of language minorities. He was always excited to talk about his
meetings with you and plans for his teaching in your programs. Thank you
for embracing his shared vision even though he was not officially part of
the Graduate School of Education. I know you will be continuing to guide
the love of learning and language in whatever ways you can. I know that Hal
is presenting a toast to you from Heaven in the several hundred
languages you both love the most... Fondly, Marilyn Schiffman
