*Job Summary/Basic Function:*
Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a Tenure-Track 
Assistant Professor of International and Comparative Education with a 
specialization in Language, Literacies, and Communities to engage in 
research, teaching, and advising in the Program in International and 
Comparative Education (ICEd).

Candidates with a bilingual/multilingual background are strongly 
encouraged to apply.

*CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*

  * Develop and maintain a strong research agenda and publication record.
  * *Teaching responsibilities*include: graduate level courses in
    international educational development and comparative and
    international education and courses on language policy,
    multilingualism, critical approaches to language and literacy
    assessment, and/or community development.
  * *Academic advisement responsibilities*include: working with both
    masters and doctoral students on thesis projects and dissertations.

*Minimum Qualifications:*

  * Earned doctorate in international and comparative education and/or a
    related social science discipline (e.g., anthropology, political
    science, or sociology) or applied linguistics.
  * Must be able to show evidence of research on education policies as
    they pertain to community languages taught in schools (like “mother
    tongue” education); multilingualism in policy, schooling, or outside
    of school settings; literacies or critical approaches to the
    evaluation of them; or participatory development and community
    empowerment.
  * Applicants should demonstrate knowledge in qualitative or mixed
    research methods (such as archival research, participatory action
    research, or surveys).
  * Other professional experience in international education development
    will also be considered.
  * Be able to show evidence of exemplary teaching and advisement. The
    search committee is especially interested in candidates who will
    contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

*Preferred Qualifications:*

  *   A research focus on teaching and communicating in languages other
    than English is also preferred

*Application Process*

  * Applicants with professional and project experience in the Global
    South, including demonstrated success in securing external funding,
    will be given preference
  * Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, two writing samples, a
    teaching statement, and a list of three professional references, and
    a letter of interest detailing how the applicant meets the criteria
    for the position. The appointment is expected to begin in September
    2023. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2022 and
    continue until the search is completed.
