Position Description

The School of Anthropology at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Linguistic and Cultural Anthropology, to begin fall 2023, pending budgetary approval. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related field. We seek a broadly trained linguistic and cultural anthropologist whose research and teaching bridge the subfields. Geographical and thematic areas of specialization are open. We seek applicants who can contribute to research on critical race and Indigenous studies, language and power, and language in sociopolitical context. Methodological areas of expertise are open, but candidates with training in visual anthropology/ethnographic film, digital ethnography, and multimodal methods are especially welcome to apply. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research, and publication. Teaching responsibilities will include four courses per academic year in linguistic and cultural anthropology, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The online application should include a cover letter that discusses the candidate’s research expertise and teaching experience. The application must also include a diversity statement, CV, and the names and contact information for three references (letters are not required with initial application). The diversity statement should detail how the candidate can contribute to inclusive excellence at the University of Arizona, including personal background, experience working effectively with diverse student populations, and how the candidate includes diversity in their research program, community engagement, and teaching philosophy.
