Dear wonderfully cooperative LINGUIST readers,
 
It's a long story which I won't bore you with, but I need translations of the
following five words IN AS MANY LANGUAGES AS POSSIBLE for use in a television
programme being made for BBCtv:
 
memory
foot
water
sun
fire
 
I already have French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Catalan, Arabic,
Dutch.
 
I would be grateful to anyone who can send me the translations of these words
in any other language(s).  Ideally, I'm after 150 languages, so feel free to
send exotic ones.  The translations are needed in spoken rather than written
form, so please give some (IPA-like ?) transcription where pronunciation is
not (sort of) apparent from spelling.

Subject: A query
 
        Uhh,  I would like to pose a question to the net.  Please excuse me if
I do not take a lot of time to fawn (vi) the net, but I have to get to class. I
will fawn later.
        Anyway, I, along with another amateur linguist, am engaged in a hot
debate.  Student A holds that "Paratactic" is an adequate description of Old
English grammar, while student B argues that a description of the OE
inflectional system and how sentence sense is less determined by word order
than in ModE is a better description of the OE system of syntax.  Student B
claims that "Paratactic" is only a description of one characteristic of OE
syntax.
Please let me know who is correct.

Hello,
 
As part of a newly launched research program, aiming at a pragmatical
analysis and modeling of dialogue phenomena, we are indexing all
the existing corpora containing dialogues in French.
 
Could you please list the corpora you know of, the way they are stored
as well as their disponibility and conditions for use.
 
If you have other useful addresses for our request, don't hesitate to
let us know.
 
Corpora will not be used for any commercial purpose and
anonymity will be preserved to personal data.
