Subject:   Hebrew ki-clauses?
 
 
In my dissertation on Biblical Hebrew verbal syntax and semantics, I
make a point about the use of ki-clauses depending on V2 or V1
ordering.  A committee member noted that her better half had different
readings as a modern speaker as well.  I'd now like to follow this up
by asking for relevant literature on Modern Hebrew. Presumably the
following might be different with respect to the verbal reading or
that of the complementizer ki:
 
$ev-na fo ki YHWH $lax-ni 9ad bet-el (2 Kings 2:2)
stay here, please, for YHWH (has) sent me to Bethel.
 
vs. $ev-na fo ki $lax-ni YHWH 9ad bet-el  (??)

Subject:  Looking for software
 
 
We are currently using WinSoft and the appropriate WinText software
for our Arabic and Cyrillic fonts.  The problem we have is with our
scanner that will scan the text as an image.  What we need then is
software that would enable us to treat the scanned text (Arabic or
Cyrillic) as text.  Thanks for any comment or help.

I'm a D.Phil student, and I'm working on ambiguity in natural
language.  Part of my research looks into the question of ambiguity
tests.  Can anyone out there help by giving me names of recent
publications (articles, books, etc.)  relating to this subject.  I'm
particularly interested in applying ambiguity tests to languages other
than English.  Thanks.

	I am a graduate student looking for a graded reading passage
in French.  I am looking for something that is considered intermediate
level (probably 4th quarter level in an American university system),
and it need only be a few paragraphs long. Where can I look to find
one?  As a last resort, where do I go if I cannot find one and must
purchase one (i.e.  from a testing service, etc..)? Please reply to me
