We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Subject:  Old Latin vowel deletion

I am searching for either examples of or an authoritative source on
the deletion of vowels in Old or even later Latin.

e.g. amao --> amo, amaem --> amem
quaero --> quero (Spanish quiero)
caid- --> cid-
(other examples of deletion after ''a''? After other vowels? Contextually or otherwise?)

I will post a follow-up of responses in digest form.

Thanks,

Subject:  Latin verb class ratios/stats

I'm searching for real statistics for one or more parts of the
Classical Latin period for type/token frequency of verbs by class (I,
II, III, IV); i.e. how many I verbs (types/tokens), II verbs, etc.
Any ideas?

Any recommended sources for Old French phoneme (not grapheme) token
frequency? ca. 1000-1500? Will compile replies and repost.

Thanks,
