Subject:  Faroese Summer Institute July 2004

This is an announcement on behalf of the department of Faroese
language at the University of the Faroe Islands.

The first international summer institute in Faroese will be held July
5 - 27 2004, at Fradskaparsetur Faroya, the University of the Faroe
Islands. The course is open to applicants from all countries.

Approximately 35 students can be accepted. The participants will be
taught in two groups based on their previous knowledge of Faroese.

PROGRAMME:
50 lessons of Faroese grammar and language exercises,
20 lectures on oral and modern literature
10 lectures on society and culture
2 excursions to places of historical and geographical interest.

The languages of instruction will be Faroese and English. Participants
will be provided with a certificate upon the completion of the course.

The tuition fee for the course is Dkk 4500 (700 US$/600 euro). The
deadline for application is March 1, 2004.

Subject:  Closing of Durham Linguistics Dept in Telegraph

The closing of the Durham linguistics department and East Asian
Studies Department has made the Telegraph. Probably too little
coverage too late unfortunately
