This position will oversee all aspects of the development of the Alaska
Native Language Center Archive, the premier repository for the
documentation of Alaska Native Languages, including both print and
audio-visual materials. The director will be responsible for overseeing the
execution of the archive's outreach and research support missions,
including the formalization of the archive management policies and procedures. 

Duties include curation of existing materials; collection development;
outreach to user communities; supervision of archive employees; and grant
writing. The holder of this position will take an active role in the future
expansion of the archive, including efforts to expand digital archiving
capabilities and solicit acquisitions.

The archive serves a broad range of user communities at both the statewide
and international levels. To that extent, the director will collaborate and
network with stakeholder groups both in Alaska and beyond. 

While the director's primary responsibility is the management of the
archive, the position includes teaching, research, and service. Teaching
opportunities exist with the Alaska Native Language Program, Alaska Native
Studies Program, Department of Anthropology, and Linguistics Program.

Candidates will be evaluated for their ability to (1) establish an active
research program in Alaska Native language documentation and archiving; (2)
support research for Alaska Native language revitalization and
documentation projects; (3)facilitate publication which makes use of
archival materials; (4) work with Alaska Native communities; (5)
write/manage grant funded projects.  (6) Support University of Alaska
tripartite mission of performing teaching, research and public service.
