The Department of Portuguese of the Faculty of Social Sciences and
Humanities (FSH) of the Universiy of Macau invites applications for the
position of Full Professor in the following discipline:

Portuguese Studies
Areas of specialization include Culture, Linguistics, Lusophone Literature,
History of Lusophone countries, International Relations of Lusophone
countries, Translation or Interpreting.

The Department of Portuguese has a teaching staff of 30 members, including
speakers of both European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. The
Department offers an undergraduate degree in Portuguese Studies,
concentrating on Portuguese as a Foreign Language, and with selected
courses in Interpretation and Translation, Foreign Language Pedagogy,
Literary Studies and History. Also at the undergraduate level, the
Department teaches Portuguese Language within the Faculty of Law, and
offers elective courses in Portuguese as a Foreign Language to students
from all faculties of the University. At the postgraduate level, the
Department of Portuguese offers two Masters programmes (a Masters in
Portuguese Language and Culture and a Masters in Translation Studies), and
PhD studies in Portuguese Linguistics and Translation Studies.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in one of the relevant areas and have
native speaker or near native speaker competence in Portuguese. Applicants
must have a solid record of tertiary teaching experience and a
distinguished record of research and publication at the international
level. Experience either in the Teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign
Language or the teaching of the candidate's particular discipline to
speakers of Portuguese as a foreign language will be advantageous.
Applicants must have a solid record of administration experience at the
tertiary level, and capacity for leadership. The appointee will be required
to teach courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, provide
postgraduate dissertation supervision and conduct research in his/her area
of specialization.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in mid August 2011.

Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be commensurate with the
appointee's academic qualification, professional experience and current
position. The University offers competitive remuneration packages including
provident fund, medical benefit, housing subsidy, and relocation allowance,
etc. The effective personal income tax in Macao is currently about 5%.
