Description:

The Department of Linguistics and TESOL at The University of Texas at
Arlington invites applications for a one-year position, non-tenure track,
as a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics, for the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012
semesters. Classes for the fall semester will start on August 25, 2011.
Candidates will need to have earned their doctorate in Linguistics by the
time of appointment. Salary for this nine-month position will be $38,000.

The teaching load will consist of six courses total, with three courses
each semester. Two of these will be cross-listed as graduate/undergraduate
course, and the third will be an undergraduate course. The cover letter
should address the applicant's ability to cover the following courses:
Introduction to Linguistics (at the undergraduate and graduate levels),
Semantics, and History of Linguistics (a survey of the recent history of
the field of linguistics looking at the emergence of generative theories of
syntax, phonology, and semantics), as well as an undergraduate general
education class, Introduction to the Study of Human Languages.
Additionally, candidates should make clear what background they have that
would enable them to teach a course in the structure of a non-Western
language; it is possible that this course might also be part of the spring
roster of courses taught by this hire. 

The Department has a thriving PhD program, a new undergraduate major in
linguistics, strong MA programs in linguistics and in TESOL, and an
undergraduate and a graduate certificate in TESOL. 
 
A letter of application describing teaching and research interests, current
curriculum vitae, one writing sample, and evidence of teaching excellence
