Description:

The University of Oslo is Norway’s largest institution of research and education with 28,000 students and 7,000 employees. Its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally esteemed research communities make UiO an important contributor to society. 

The Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies (ILN) is one of seven departments at The Faculty of Humanities. The Department has approximately 160 employees working with research, teaching and dissemination. The areas of research and teaching include Scandinavian languages and literature, lexicography and onomastics, linguistics, rhetorics and communication, language technology and computing in the humanities, and Irish language and culture.

Two permanent positions as Associate Professor in General Linguistics are available at the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies, University of Oslo. For further information about the Department, see its homepage (above).

Duties:
Research in general linguistics at the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies covers all of the discipline's core areas (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics). The positions encompass teaching in all of these areas.

The holders of the positions are expected to initiate and lead research within at least one of the core areas of general linguistics, to supervise PhD  and MA candidates, to participate in teaching, exam setting and evaluation at all levels, and to carry out administrative duties in accordance with applicable rules.

Requirements:
- Ph.D. in linguistics with relevance to the disciplinary area or equivalent academic qualifications.
- Pedagogical skills and a willingness to take active part in academic leadership and administration.
- Documented teaching experience in the subject.
- Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
- The successful candidates must know Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, or learn Norwegian within the two first years in the position.

Salary and Conditions of Service:
- Salary level 57-64 (482 800 - 549 400 NOK per year, depending on qualifications).
- Possibility to apply for promotion to full professorship at a later stage.
