Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Teaching
Assistant Professor working in the service ESL and MATESL program for the
academic year 2017-2018.  Renewal of the position is contingent on student
enrollment, strong performance reviews and availability of funding.

The successful candidate will teach in both the service ESL and MATESL
programs.  In the MATESL program, the candidate will be involved in teaching
at both the undergraduate and graduate level, supervision of MA and PhD
research, maintaining an active research agenda, mentoring of students, and
engaging in service activities appropriate to academic rank.  In the service
ESL program, the individual will serve as Coordinator of ESL Pronunciation and
International Teaching Assistant (ITA) courses.  Responsibilities include
teaching classes, grading student assignments, developing instructional
materials, holding office hours, and assisting in student placement, program
and curricular development, and instructor training.

Target starting date is August 16, 2017.  Salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience. 

A PhD in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related area and an MA in TESL
or an equivalent degree is required with the completion date of the PhD not
later than August 1, 2017.  Candidates must have experience teaching
pronunciation in an ESL/EFL context and have experience in meeting the needs
of ITAs.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

- Experience in teaching Pedagogical Phonology for ESL/EFL teachers;
- Experience in program coordination;
- Evidence of continuing professional development;
- Experience mentoring TAs;
- Experience related to language teaching with technology; 
- Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching, ideally via course
evaluations.
