Subject: Typology of Suspension

Dear All,

I am interested in implicational generalizations that have consequences for
the architecture of grammar.

Some languages, e.g. Turkish, exhibit constructions in which a single nominal
inflectional element is shared between two nouns, but many other languages,
say English, do not:

kedi ve köpek-ler
cat and dog-PLU
''cats and dogs''
*cat and dogs

Such constructions came to be called ''suspended 'affixation' ''. (1) I was
wondering if there is any typological work listing languages that exhibit
suspension constructions.

To be more specific, I am interested in the validity of the following
generalization:

The Suspension-Concord Generalization (SCG)
If a language allows suspension of the morpheme A,
then this language does not have obligatory agreement between nouns and
nominal modificational elements (adjectives, numerals, demonstratives and
determiners etc.) in any features expressed by A.

This generalization suggests that Turkish should have no number concord, which
is true. I am aware that plurality in Tagalog is a putative counterexample.
(2) Do you know of any languages that seem to invalidate SCG?

Thanks for your help!

Best Regards
