Subject: Laughter as a DM in Computer-Mediated Communication Survey

Hello! My name is Emily Finley and I am a second year Master’s student at the
University of Texas at Arlington. I am doing an Institutional Review
Board-approved study at UTA that is looking at how laughter is used in text
messages. The goal of this study is to better understand how we communicate
through text messages and how it may mirror spoken conversation. I am
collecting data for this project in the form of screenshots of text
conversations containing a use of laughter. If you would like to contribute
your own data to this study, please go to the survey link below!
https://uta.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9BOBC8QPiaAmddr

Some things to know before getting started with the survey:

1) This survey asks you to first provide demographic information and then
provide screenshots of text conversations. I would suggest finding your
screenshots first to make the actual survey process shorter!
- Screenshots need to include some form of laughter (lol, lmao, other
acronyms, GIFs, emoticons/emojis, iMessage/Messenger/etc. reactions, etc.)
- Include as much context to the conversation as you feel is necessary to
understand why laughter is present

2) The survey host site will eventually autocomplete your response, regardless
of whether or not it is complete. I would suggest getting your response
completed within a week or less, in order to avoid forgetting to finish your
response.

3) Any questions about the survey can be emailed to me at
emily.finley at mavs.uta.edu
