The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Netherlandic Studies is the

disciplines, whose research focuses on some aspect of Netherlandic Studies, be
it linguistic, literary, historical, political, diasporic, post-colonial,
art-historical, etc. This year, our annual conference will take place fully
online, for the second time in the history of our association in conjunction
with the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences of Canada (May 14-15,
2022).
Call for Papers:
Call for Papers for the Annual Meeting of the
Canadian Association for the Advancement of Netherlandic Studies (CAANS) /
Association canadienne pour l’avancement des études néerlandaises (ACAEN)
14-15 May 2022
Online Conference
In partnership with the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences
We invite proposals for papers addressing the main theme of this year’s
virtual gathering: Transitions. This theme coincides with the theme chosen by
the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences for Congress 2022, an
annual gathering of Canadian academic associations active in the humanities
and social sciences. The theme invites scholars to reflect on changes,
inspired by the ongoing debate on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and
Decolonization (EDID), that are currently unfolding, particularly in the
social and linguistic arena but also beyond in the Netherlandic world.
In addition to proposals focusing on this year’s theme, we also welcome
proposals for papers addressing any other topic related to Netherlandic
studies, including but not limited to language, literature, culture, history,
art and art history, or politics.
Presentations will be 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions and discussion
and may be delivered in English, French, or Dutch. The online format for all
papers will be live presentation with live Q&A. Instructions will be shared
with the presenter upon acceptance of their proposal.
CAANS 2022 will feature two keynote speakers: Dr. Ena Jansen (Universiteit van
Amsterdam), whose research focuses on the Afrikaans literature of
South-Africa, and Dr. Ludovic Beheydt (Université Catholique de Louvain), a
specialist of Dutch Linguistics and Netherlandic Culture. Both keynote
lectures will address issues related to this year’s conference theme.
Please send your title and a short abstract (150-300 words exclusive of any
