Dear all,
The first week of the 2021 Fund Drive is behind us. As of today, there are
$6,856.00 in the Fund Drive account. These contributions have come from over
one hundred generous individuals who decided to take the future of the
LINGUIST List in their hands! This is a little over 17% of this year’s
fund-raising goal of $40,000. The current amount is regularly updated on our
website: https://funddrive.linguistlist.org/. Our hearts are truly warmed by
your generosity – a huge thanks to all donors and supporters. If we continue
at this tempo, the Fund Drive will be over within 5 weeks!
Last week, our biggest donators were the sociolinguists. This week, the first
place in the subfield challenge goes to: Syntax! They have a small lead, and
it is clear that with a couple of donations, sociolinguistics may easily take
over. Applied linguistics is in third but we definitely see the capacity to
move upwards.

As for the university challenge, the University of South Carolina has
continuously held the leadership since last week. The University of South
Carolina leads both in terms of the combined amount of support but also in
terms of number of donors (eight!). The second place goes to Temple University
at Japan, secured by one generous donation! In terms of number of donors, the
second place goes to the University of Oslo, the home university of three of
our consistent supporters. Thank you! To all those who have not yet had a
chance to donate – let’s not drag our feet, put your university at the top of
the list! For the updates, check
https://funddrive.linguistlist.org/university/ .

Most donations come from North America and Europe, but linguists are
everywhere. Where are our donors? Check this out:

The full list of supporters in this year’s Fund Drive, regularly updated, can
be found here: https://funddrive.linguistlist.org/supporters/ Thank you,
linguistics!

Please, if you can, donate! Even the smallest contributions count.

Your grateful
LINGUIST List team
