Description:

The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics wishes to appoint
an outstanding teacher and researcher to the open-ended, full-time post of
Senior Lecturer in Second Language Acquisition. The appointee will make major
contributions to teaching, learning, research and impact in the English
Language and Linguistics subject group, and be an active member of the
Language Evolution, Acquisition and Development research group.

Applicants will have a completed PhD in Linguistics or a related discipline,
and be able to demonstrate success in teaching Second Language Acquisition at
both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Applicants will have an
outstanding record in research (including outputs, engagement/ impact
activities and bids for external grant income) that is informed by linguistic
theory and firmly embedded in the field of Second Language Acquisition.
Proficiency in the collection, handling and analysis of second language data
is essential, as is a track record in attracting PhD students and supervising
them to completion. Applicants will also demonstrate clear potential for
making a strong contribution to the School’s and Faculty’s collaborative
education and research culture.

Key Accountabilities: 
 - Complement and contribute to the advancement of teaching, research and
impact in the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics 
 - Lead in the development and delivery of innovative, high-quality teaching
in Second Language Acquisition
 - Supervise research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels 
 - Produce high-quality outputs in second language acquisition and other areas
of the appointee’s expertise 
 - Apply for research funding both individually and collaboratively 
 - Undertake administrative roles as required by the Head of School 
 - Work collaboratively with colleagues in the School of English Literature,
Language and Linguistics and across the University

 The Person (Essential): 
 - A portfolio of internationally excellent, original and rigorous research
that is informed by linguistic theory and firmly embedded in the field of
Second Language Acquisition
 - Additional expertise in one or more of the research and teaching strengths
of the Language and Linguistics subject group
 - Evidence of the delivery of both high-quality teaching and research
training in Second Language Acquisition at undergraduate and postgraduate
levels
 - Demonstrable success in attracting PhD students and supervising them to
completion 
 - Expertise in the collection, management and analysis of second language
acquisition data  
 - A track record of research outputs commensurate with career stage   
 - Experience in applying for external grant income and clear plans to build
on it    
 - Concrete ideas for the design and delivery of engagement and impact
activities
 - The ability to make a strong contribution to the wider education culture of
the School and the Faculty 
 - Clear ideas for contributing to the Language Evolution, Acquisition &
Development research group as well as other University-wide research networks 
 - Experience of administration and leadership in Higher Education
