Specialty Areas: General Linguistics

Description:

Headquartered in Berkeley, California, Neurobehavioral Systems (NBS) has been
developing high-precision scientific software for more than two decades. Built
upon Presentation® — our flagship experiment creation software — we recently
developed the AI-supported California Cognitive Assessment Battery (CCAB) to
bring state-of-the art cognitive testing into patients’ homes.

NBS is seeking a talented scientist to assist in the development of
telemedically-administered computerized cognitive tests. The research is
funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Current tests use
text-to-speech tools to generate verbal stimuli and automatic speech
recognition (ASR) to quantify performance. The CCAB tests will be used in a
large-scale longitudinal study to identify older individuals at risk of
cognitive decline and will also be normed on subjects of different ages,
educational levels, and ethnic backgrounds. To learn more about our cognitive
assessments, please visit our website at www.ccabresearch.com.

Responsibilities:
 - Assist in the design and refinement of new and revised cognitive tests
 - Telemedically administer CCAB tests to subjects in their homes
 - Develop improved analytic procedures of linguistic data to quantify CCAB
test results
 - Present CCAB test results at seminars and conferences
 - Train examiners to administer CCAB tests

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess the following attributes:
 - A PhD in neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, linguistics, or
related disciplines
 - Extensive research experience in the analysis of human cognition
 - Scientific publications
 - Strong computer programming and data analysis skills
 - Outstanding communication skills
 - Permission to work in the US for at least three years

Preferred but not Essential:
 - Experience in administering neuropsychological tests to older participants
 - Previous experience managing large scale research projects
 - Programmatic experience with Presentation®, Python, or R
 - Experience with phonological, lexical, syntactic, and/or semantic analysis
 - Experience in neuroscience-focused start ups
 - Conversational knowledge of Spanish or other languages

Opportunities:
Qualified applicants will be eligible to submit independent Small Business
Innovative Research (SBIR) grants. There will be ample authorship and
co-authorship opportunities and chances to collaborate with scientists at UC
Davis, UC Berkeley, and the VA.
