At Sonos, we want to create the ultimate listening experience for our
customers and know that it starts by listening to each other. As part of the
Sonos team, you’ll collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and
backgrounds to realize our vision while fostering a community where everyone
feels included and empowered to do the best work of their lives.

We are looking for an American English Linguist to join the Language Team
(based in Paris and Boston) and help us build the Sonos Voice Experience.

What You’ll Do:
You will work on the development and maintenance of the American English voice
assistant (Sonos Voice Control) running on Sonos devices. Your tasks will
include:
 - Understanding new voice use cases and effectively supporting them within
Sonos Voice
 - Control to ensure a premium, intuitive and up-to-date voice experience
 - Producing (or supervising the production) of the textual and audio data
used to feed our machine learning models
 - Ensuring a constant high level of data quality (which includes, among other
tasks, the quality review of externally produced data, and the phonemic
transcription of the voice assistant vocabulary)
 - Assessing the quality of our Machine Learning models before new versions of
Sonos Voice Control are released
 - Designing user surveys, analyzing and incorporating users’ feedback to
evolve our models
 - Participating in the specification and testing of the Language Team
internal tooling

You will work hand in hand with our other American Linguist, and will closely
collaborate with other Machine Learning and technical teams, as well as cross
functional teams (User Experience, Quality Assurance) and Product Managers.

Skills You’ll Need:

Basic Qualifications:
 - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Linguistics or Natural Language Processing
 - Perfect proficiency in American English (native American English speaker or
equivalent level)
 - Working knowledge of General Linguistics, applied to American English
(Phonetics, Phonology, Semantics, Syntax and Morphology)
 - Use of spreadsheets for data management and basic statistical analysis
 - Ability to understand formal representations, and willingness to learn (a
lot of!) new technical concepts and tools
 - Very strong organizational skills
 - Ability to work in close collaboration with different teams, to adapt to
their needs, and to convey accurate and relevant information about your
language
 - Ability to focus on tasks requiring precision and meticulousness

Preferred Qualifications:
 - Knowledge in Natural Language Processing (formal grammars, regular
expressions, etc.) and/or in command line (unix-style terminal)
 - 2-3 years of experience as a Linguist in the tech industry
 - Passion for music, and extensive knowledge of musicians/artists
 - Speaking French is also a plus, but is not required

We consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may
cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience and
qualifications. This job is also eligible for discretionary bonuses as well as
an opportunity to become a Sonos shareholder because all full time employees
are eligible for stock grants.
