Description:

The Department of Languages and Culture Studies invites applications
for an Assistant Professor position to begin August 14, 2024.

Requirements for the position include: (1) a Ph.D. in Translation
Studies and/or Interpreting Studies or a closely related discipline;
(2) an active research agenda with publications in Translation Studies
and/or Interpreting Studies and potential for external funding; (3)
the ability to teach translation and/or interpreting practice courses
in two or more of the following language pairs: English-French,
English-Japanese, English-Spanish; (4) the ability to teach
non-language specific courses in one or more of the following areas:
translation and/or interpreting theory and history, translation and/or
interpreting technologies, translation/interpreting and language
learning, localization, translation project management, translation as
it relates to linguistics and/or literature; (5) the ability to teach
upper level courses in their languages, such as
language-for-specific-purposes (LSP), literature, culture,
linguistics. Successful candidates will be expected to teach and
develop graduate and undergraduate courses for online and face-to-face
delivery. Finalists for the position will be asked to discuss how
their teaching practices engage students of different ages, races,
ethnicities, backgrounds, identities, and abilities, helping to remove
barriers in order to ensure the success of all students regardless of
their entry pathway into the university.

The Department. The Department offers: undergraduate and graduate
translation certificate programs in French, German, Japanese, and
Spanish; a graduate interpreting certificate program and an MA in
Spanish with coursework in translation and interpreting; majors and
minors in French, German, Japanese, and Spanish; minors in Arabic
Studies, Chinese, Francophone Studies, Italian, and Russian;
undergraduate certificates in French, German, Japanese, and Spanish
for Business; a graduate certificate in Spanish for Business.

As the largest and most diverse college at UNC Charlotte, the new
College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences houses 15
departments, 18 interdisciplinary programs, and 6 applied centers. We
offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs with
extensive honors and early-entry options. The College plays a pivotal
role in delivering on the university’s goals in the areas of research
excellence, student success and experience, and community engagement.
Through their scholarship and teaching, the College’s 350+ faculty
members seek to deepen our understanding of complex problems and lead
the university in interdisciplinary collaboration and equity and
