Another footnote to this problem showing german and missingsch
interference in öömrang/fering:

German:
1._so klein wie_(_as small as_)
2._klein wie_(_small like_)
3._kleiner als_(smaller than_)
4._wie klein?_(_how small?_)
Low german:
1._so lütt as_
2._lütt as_
3._lütter as_
4._wo lütt?_
Öömrang:
1._so letj üs_(nowadays often realized as _so letj hü_)
2._letj üs_(nowadays often _letj hü_)
3._letjer üs_(nowadays often _letjer hü_)
4._hü letj?_

Hiervan ken ik geen parallen in hedendaags Nederlands. Wel komt het
voor dat "dat" in deze situatie klinkt als "dan".

Ik dank Di för düsse intressante Informatschoon, Jens.  Daar is schients
vundagigendaags in't Amrum Noordfreessch (Öömrang) de Ring an't Sluten:
Missingsch _wie_ in'n Sinn vun ,,wo'' un ,,as'' wöör konsequent to _üs_ ,,as''
un denn to _hü_ ,,wo''.  In't Neddersassische (Nedderdüütsche) is dat noch nich
so wied, un ik glööv' nicht, dat dat so wied kaamt.

Thanks for the interesting information, Jens.  So it seems that these days the
circle is closing in Amrum North Frisian: Missingsch _wie_ in the sense of both
'how' and 'as' and 'than' has become _üs_ 'as' and then _hü_ 'how'.  In Low
Saxon (Low German) it has not gone that far, and I doubt it will go that far.

Lowlanders, please bear in mind that Low Saxon _wou_ (_wo_) and Amrum North
Frisian _hü_ originally denoted what in English is 'how', thus expression of
manner.  Because of Low Saxon influence on German in the form of Missingsch
(German on Low Saxon substrate) that generalized _wie_ as expressing 'as',
'than' and 'how', the latest development in Amrum is to choose the word for
'how' for all of these.

I find this to be an extraordinarily interesting examples of how North Germany's
three languages -- Frisian, Low Saxon and German -- interact and influence each
other, Low Saxon and Missingsch usually playing pivotal roles in this
interaction.
