Subject: Online resources

[The following is in Low Saxon (Low German) and English.]

Leve Lüüd',
Elk Jaar, as wie Neejaar anstüürt, kaamt Fragen up vun wegen "Auld Lang Syne,"
dat schottsche Fründschuppsleed vun Robert Burns, dat nu to 'n weltwied
Neejaarsleed worren is. In verledene Jaren hebbt 'n paar Lüüd' up Lowlands-L
(http://www.geocities.com/sassisch/rhahn/lowlands/) schottsche Verschonen
biestüürt un verklaart, un ick heff mien neddersassisch
(nedderdüütsch/plattdüütsch) Översetten mit biegeven. (Dree Norddüütsche
hebbt mie al schreven, dat Se de neddersassische Verschoon nu tohuus' mit jüm
er Lüüd' singen doot, un daar heff ick mie överbasig to höögt.) Eer dat düsse
Fragen nu wedder upkaamt, heff ick 'n Nett-Sied daarför tohoopklamüüstert. De
find Jie hier: <http://www.geocities.com/sassisch/auld_lang_syne.htm>. Daar
findt Jie de schottsche Orginaalverschoon un mien Översetten. Verbinnen sünd
ook mit daar bie. Wenn Jie up dé klickt, denn köönt Jie de Melodie hören, or
Jie köönt in de Glossaren rinkieken un Verklaren vun enkelte Wöör finnen -- or
Jie köönt Ju de PDF-Verschonen ankieken un uutdrucken, in dé ook de
Musieknoten un de twee Verschonen in API-Luudschrift för de akrate Uutspraak
mit binnen sünd. Will höpen, Jie hebbt Vermaak daar an. Wenn daar wat
verdwatsch lopen is, or wenn Jie annere Kommentaren hebbt, denn seggt man
driest to, un ick will Ju Dank weten.
Mit Neejaarswünschen uut Seattle, USA,
Reinhard "Ron" Hahn

Dear folks,
Every year, as we get close to New Year's, people ask about "Auld Lang Syne,"
Robert Burns' Scots friendship song that has become an international New
Year's song. In past years, some people at Lowlands-L
(http://www.geocities.com/sassisch/rhahn/lowlands/) have contributed and
explained Scots versions, and I have contributed my Low Saxon (Low German)
translation. (I was absolutely thrilled to hear from three North Germans who
actually sing the Low Saxon version with their families at home now!) Before
these questions arise once again, I have put together a relevant website. You
will find it at <http://www.geocities.com/sassisch/auld_lang_syne.htm>. It
contains the original Scots version and my translation. There are several
links. Click on them and you will hear the tune played, or you can view the
glossaries with explanations of specific words -- or you can view and print
the PDF versions that also contain the musical score and, for proper Scots and
Low Saxon pronunciation, phonetic transcriptions (API). I hope you will enjoy
this. Please do not hesitate to let me know about shortcomings or if you have
any other type of comments. I would appreciate it.
With New Year's wishes from Seattle, USA,
Reinhard "Ron" Hahn
