Subject: Names

Ron and Jorge referred to "Benjamin" as a generic name for a youngest son.
Chambers Dictionary cites it as meaning a youngest or favourite son, but I
have never heard this usage in real life.

The discussion reminded me that my mother had a cousin named Henry who was
always called "Sonny". (The family was from Norfolk.) I thought it might be
because he was the youngest son but I'm coming round to the view that it was
because he had the same name as his father. I'm making inquiries in the
family, but does anybody else know a rule for "Sonny".

I have heard that "Sony" is a Japanese misspelling of "Sonny".
